HOW TO KEEP KOI IN AUSTRALIA | Essential Factors and Feeding Tips for a Rewarding Hobby

Keeping koi can be a rewarding hobby. Here are a few key factors to consider when keeping koi in Australia:

• Climate: Australia has a warm climate, which is suitable for koi. However, during the summer months, it is important to provide adequate shade and aeration to prevent high water temperatures from stressing the fish.
• Water quality: Koi are sensitive to water quality, so it is important to maintain good water conditions by regularly testing the pH, ammonia, and nitrite levels.
• Pond size: Koi need plenty of space to swim and grow, so a pond that is at least 3 meters long and 1.5 meters wide is recommended.
• Filtration: A good filtration system is essential for keeping the water clean and healthy for the koi.
• Food: It is important to feed koi a high-quality diet that provides all of the nutrients they need to thrive. There are many different types of koi food available, including pellets, sticks, and freeze-dried options.

Koi fish are popular and expensive due to their beauty, cultural significance as symbols of good luck, popularity as a hobby, cost of breeding high-quality fish, rarity of certain varieties such as the Kohaku and Sanke, are highly prized and can fetch high prices due to their rarity and beauty. Koi can grow to be quite large, which adds to their visual appeal and contributes to their high cost.

KIRAMEKI, created by Singapore's largest fish farm and top breeder of Koi and fancy goldfish, is gaining popularity among cold-water fish keepers globally who want the best for their fish.

Now a leading brand used by top Koi breeding farms in Japan, KIRAMEKI offers a wide range of formats and sizes to fit all fish breeds. Tips for feeding Koi:
There is no set amount for feeding pond fish, but the five-minute method is recommended: sprinkle a small amount of food into the pond and wait until it's eaten before adding more. Repeat for five minutes, then stop. The best time to feed koi depends on the amount of direct sunlight the pond receives. For ponds with limited sunlight, feed at midday when the pond is warmest. For ponds with a lot of sunlight, feed in the morning or evening when the pond is warm but not too hot for the fish. These recommendations are based on temperature, so it's best to check the thermometer regularly. If the pond temperature reaches the mid-20s or higher, fish may not be interested in eating.
